Christmas Shopping

I’m about 99.8% done with Christmas shopping – whoo hoo! I am definitely not one of those gals who gets her shopping done the week after Thanksgiving. I usually wait a bit to see what kind of deals I can get. We draw names on both sides of our family – it is such a perfect way to buy gifts! I love that we can spend between $50-75 on one person and get them something they truly want…instead of knowing we have 12 people to buy for and only being able to spend $15/person. I can’t say who I have on my blog because my family will see…you will have to wait and find out! I just know that I LOVE what I picked out for them. I hope they do too!

What are your plans for Christmas? My husband and I rotate through holidays – we were with my family for Turkey Day so we’re with his for Christmas. We are spending the night at my father and mother-in-law’s house on Christmas Eve, waking up with our pjs on Christmas Day, and spending the day with our family. Then we are leaving on Saturday with my side of the family to visit my brother and his wife in Milwaukee. I don’t know if I have ever explained my family to you…lets see. I have an older sister, Michelle (married to Clint), then comes Ryan (married to Mollie), then Renae (married to David) then me, and my little sister Jen (dating Noah). Anna is my only niece on that side but there are 2 on the way! Renae and David are having their second in April…and Ryan & Mollie are having their first in May!

On Brian’s side there are 2 sisters – Kari & Megan. They are married to Rob & Mike. Megan and Mike have Emmie and Jackson, and Kari and Rob have Parker (our godson). Such fun families!

Here is a pic that my siblings and I ‘re-enact’ every time we have a family function going on. We accidentally did this pose a while ago and have been doing it for years! The one below that is our spouses 🙂

‘Tis the Season!

Tonight we have a formal Christmas party we are going to…we are really excited to spend the evening with some of our dearest friends…we are supposed to bring an appetizer or dessert to share and a beverage for everyone to enjoy. I am really looking forward to it! I had quite a time trying to find something to wear but think I’ve figured it out. We will be sure to post pictures from this evening! I hope you are able to go to some Christmas parties this year – they are such a fun reason to get together with friends and family!

Logan is doing well…sick right now though. He has his very first cough, and its a pretty bad one. There is nothing harder than listening to your child cough and wheeze and there isn’t a thing you can do about it. Sure, we have a humidifier, some chest rub, and saline drops for his nose…but it isn’t the same as popping a Tylenol Cold or Sudafed for adults. At least daycare is building his immune system up! Such a trooper our little man is 🙂

Our Offering

While listening to my IPOD this morning this song came on…one of my favorites but one I often forget about. I almost got down on my knees in prayer right there on my bus headed downtown. Our life is the offering we can give to our Father. Our life…one that we hold to the highest regard, one that we think is incredible…and yet such a small sacrifice to what our Heavenly Father has given us.  Sometimes I am blown away by the power of the Spirit – this morning was one of those moments. Have a joyous day today!

Magnificent Holy Father
I stand in awe of all I see
Of all the things You have created
But still You choose to think of me
Who am I that You should suffer
Your very life to set me free
The only thing that I can give You
Is the life You gave to me

This is my offering, dear Lord
This is my offering to You, God
And I will give You my life
For it’s all I have to give
Because You gave Your life for me

I stand before You at this alter
So many have given You more
I may not have much I can offer
Yet what I have is truly Yours

This is my offering, dear Lord
This is my offering to You, God
And I will give You my life
For it’s all I have to give
Because You gave Your life for me

The Flu Bug…

Yep, I am home today with the flu. It started about 11 AM yesterday and I wasn’t feeling better until about noon today. I haven’t thrown up since this morning, thank goodness, but I still need my energy and appetite back. Not quite there yet. I would much rather have a cold/sore throat/anything (okay, maybe not anything…but pretty close) except the flu. This is the second time I have had this in the past year…I hope I don’t start this every year during the late fall/early winter. I know I’m probably being a big baby about this but wow, it sure knocked me out! All I wanted was a comfy bed and some yummy soup and yet the thought of either one of those felt miles away! It was much more difficult this time because I had a little one to take care of. Right when I thought I would feel okay, I would pick him up to feed him and have to frantically run back to the bathroom…not fun. Then I would be listening to him cry knowing I couldn’t do anything to help him at that moment. Wow, everything truly is different as a parent 🙂

Rest up everyone – and stay away from the flu virus! Sorry to be such a downer today – this is all I have energy for…and totally a part of this season! I just hope you don’t get it!

Squealing in delight or Screaming?

My kid has started screaming…well, to me it seems like a scream. To others it is the ‘cutest little squeal!’ I remind them that if they heard it as often as I do in a day that ‘cute’ would turn to ‘oh boy, here we go!’ He discovered this high octave a while ago but re-discovered it over Thanksgiving weekend. He hasn’t stopped ‘squealing’ since. He is perfectly content, perfectly calm – just screaming because he knows he can.

Ha ha, really though, I love it. It reminds me that everyday he is discovering more and more, and learning more about himself and the world. It is amazing to literally see them thinking. Does that make sense? He will be sitting in his exersaucer and he will reach forward for a mirror or a toy to grab and I can literally see him thinking, “wow, i want to grab that…” and every movement is with great intention. It is the most amazing thing to observe. You continually are proud of them.

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving…we sure did! Lots to post later on! Logan did have his first taste of sweet potatoes and some yummy whip cream from Oreo salad. His aunties and grandma are allowed to do that to him 🙂
